Smart Natural Ventilation – The Sustainable Solution

A thermally insulated building envelope, low U-values, no thermal bridges – energy-efficient construction requires methodical and effective planning. The indoor climate often poses a particular challenge. It must be designed in such a way that it meets the individual needs of the occupants, while consuming as little energy as possible. Natural ventilation is particularly suitable for this purpose, and its implementation is even more effective with louvre windows.

Nowadays, an environmentally conscious and future-oriented lifestyle is particularly important to many people. Resources must be conserved, and energy saved.

When it comes to the indoor climate of buildings, two aspects play a decisive role: the building occupants’ adequate sense of comfort and the avoidance of structural damage due to condensation failure. The indoor air should contain as little carbon dioxide and harmful aerosols as possible. However, it is also important to observe temperature and humidity to prevent condensation on interior surfaces. Automated natural ventilation ensures a ventilated room even before the occupant notices a loss of air quality and meets the above-mentioned aspects while saving energy.

Smart Ventilation

The large ventilation cross-sections of louvre windows ensure efficient ventilation and thus significantly improve indoor air quality. Compared to standardised side-hung and bottom-hung windows, they offer a significantly faster exchange of fresh air and carbon dioxide and/or ie harmful aerosols: climate differences between inside and outside allow the warm, stale air to rise and escape, while fresh air flows in from below.

While using motorised louvre windows for controlled ventilation a pleasant and healthy room climate without sinking the indoor temperature significantly is created and ensures a regular exchange of air. The louvres can be opened at an angle between 0 and 90 degrees. FIEGER louvre windows achieve this by means of an infinitely variable opening control.

Energy Efficient Ventilation

Natural ventilation is not only suitable for reducing energy consumption within a building. It also saves money and space due to low maintenance requirements and the fact that it can effectively replace mechanical air-conditioning systems. When closed, louvre windows convince with unique features: low air permeability and high driving rain resistance. FIEGER louvre windows which are suitable for smoke extraction as a natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilator (NSHEV) in accordance with DIN EN 12101-2 can be identified by the “SmoTec” seal. With double and triple glazing, a low U-value of 1.8 and 0.9 W/m2K can also be achieved which guarantees good thermal insulation. Uninsulated louvre windows, on the other hand, can be used as a second skin façade. They ensure low transmission heat losses and solar gains in winter.

Louvre windows combine high comfort with equally high energy efficiency. Their use thus makes an important contribution to sustainable building concepts.
